What is IWAK?

IWAK is a group of mainly expatriate women  living in Kraków who meet to make new friends, help and support newcomers to the city, enjoy cultural & other activities together and support local charities.

Are there any membership fees?

Yes. Our annual membership fee is 200 złoty (pln) per year. Our calendar year runs from 1 September until 31 August.

What is done with the money collected from membership fees?

Like most organizations, IWAK uses some of the funds for covering operating costs, e.g. accounts, website maintenance, venue rental and event hosting. Any remaining money is donated to charities in the Kraków area chosen by the IWAK members.

How can I get my logo on your website as a sponsor?

If you would like more information about advertising and/or sponsoring  IWAK, e-mail us at iwak.krakow@gmail.com

How did the group get started?

IWAK started over 15 years ago, when a couple of ladies met in the park and decided to form a group of like-minded women, either newly arrived and already living in the city. Sue Meleczko, one of the founding members, tells the story in more detail on our History page.

What kind of women belong to IWAK?

All kinds! Our membership profile ranges from women who are 20-something to 65-something, and who come from 25 countries worldwide.

Do I have to speak English to join?

While official business is conducted in English, you do not have to be fluent to join and enjoy our  many activities.

Why should I join? top

IWAK provides the opportunity for expatriates and women recently relocated to Poland to establish friendships. Monthly meetings and social events put you in touch with women living in the Kraków area. Our members socialize together, share experiences and provide each other with mutual support. For more information about Membership Benefits, please visit our Membership page.

Who can join?

Membership of IWAK is extended to anyone who is interested in and willing to comply with the Association’s purpose. To ensure that IWAK is not used for commercial purposes and remains a social and family orientated group, membership is available to :

  •  Expatriate women living in Poland
  •  Women who are married to, or the partner of, an expatriate
  •  Women who have lived outside Poland as an expatriate for at least 5 years

How and where do I join?

Can I try before joining?

Yes. Please feel free to join us at any our Coffee Mornings or Newcomers Meetings.

I work full time. Do you have anything for me?

In addition to dinners and drinks parties in the evening for members (where partners & friends are also welcome), there are weekend events, ski trips, cinema visits, book clubs, music events and our famous Sheraton brunch on Sundays.

Do you have activities for families?

Yes! For babies and toddlers, there is a weekly play group where the adults can also get to know each other. For older children, there are occasional family outings and picnics.

I’d like to learn more about Kraków, do you have any cultural events?

Once a month, IWAK organizes an outing in and around Kraków. Members have explored the city with an English-speaking guide, enjoyed guided museum tours, attended concerts together and even shopped together.

Where and when do you meet?

We meet all the time in several locations around the city. Read more in About Us.

How is the group organized?

IWAK is organised by a Committee and led by the President, Vice-President and Treasurer. Committee members are responsible for coordinating membership, advertising, public relations, interest groups, social and cultural events, the IWAK website, writing and editing the monthly Newsletter and for welcoming newcomers. All the Committee members and coordinators are volunteers.

Who do I contact with further questions?
