The International Women’s Association of Kraków (IWAK)

Believe it or not, IWAK has its origins… in a chance encounter!  Two American women ran into one another in a Kraków bakery one spring day in 1994, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Sue Mleczko and Melissa Juszyński, two of IWAK’s founders, bonded over a shared discontent with the lack of social organisations for expats, and specifically, expat women in Kraków at the time. Read here how their determination to change the situation gave life to IWAK.

Our Mission

We are your bridge to life in Kraków! We help women, newcomers to the city, feel at home in their new environment. We support one another and contribute to the local community. Get to know our mission here.

Our Impact

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” IWAK women give a lot of their time, effort and resources to charity. We help those in need, especially disadvantaged children, and give back to the community in any way we can.

Our Team

The IWAK Committee is at the helm of IWAK. All Committee members and coordinators are volunteers. In addition, every IWAK member is invited to bring their own skills to IWAK and help run the association.

OUR TEAM

IWAK COMMITTEE

IWAK is run by a committee of volunteers among our members. The Committee is responsible for welcoming newcomers, organising social, cultural, and charity events, maintaining the membership database, advertising, public relations, managing the IWAK website, and keeping our members updated via regular emails.
