Looking back on the IWAK year we are energised and filled with pride! Starting small after two years of pandemic disruptions, we are growing steadily as a community and despite the challenges, have managed a year full of all types of interesting, fun, and even crazy events and outings! All the while hard at work with our other major priority; charity work for those in need.
Starting off in September 2021 we had a huge reunion on the Sheraton rooftop terrace with the lit-up Wawel before us and prosecco to sip on and we did not slow down there! In fact, this IWAK year, we have held a whopping 61 events for our members! These have included cultural walks, intimate rides along the Vistula river, bicycle tours of the city, a magic show, a winter vodka walking tour, an array of creative workshops including building with clay, which took place several times over the last months, embroidery workshops, chocolate making, bagel making, PASTA making (oh what a pleasure it was to eat it afterwards with a serving of delicious Portuguese wine)… We also got a dose of culture as IWAK members were welcome to join in to visit the one-of-a-kind “All the King’s Tapestries” exhibition at the iconic Wawel Castle, a tour of the incredible Słowacki Theatre, a private guided tour of The Czartoryski Museum and an outing aimed at families to the impressive aviation museum. We also offered events that celebrate the holidays like the successful Ye Olde Charity Christmas Banquet at the intimate historic Jarema Restaurant, raising thousands of zloty for our beneficiary, the Women’s Rights Centre. Charmed by this venue, a bunch of us returned for an elegant Polish-style Ladies’ Easter Luncheon last April. A weekend Easter brunch with egg hunt was organised for our IWAK families with younger children. Our year was also filled with regular ladies’ lunches, brunches, drinks nights and even several bowling outings!
We are closing this IWAK calendar year with a very loud and colourful BANG. Our members danced the night away at the Bollywood Evening which we hosted at the Spice of India! Not only was the food superb but the restaurant was vibrantly decorated and a room had been transformed into a dance floor where we spent hours strutting our stuff. The Committee is delighted to also welcome a number of very friendly new faces to our Association right at the end of this membership year. We are excited to meet you all again in September and are preparing for a very fulfilling 2022-2023 IWAK calendar year.
We cannot wait to see you next year and serve up more IWAK fun with a little “sneak peek” below:
